Vehco Eco-Driving Challenge

Eco-Driving Average (week 18)

69.46Range 41.8 to 8770

All Vehco customers who use our Eco-Driving service (via Vehco 4 or Vehco 5) are welcome to participate in our global Eco-Driving Challenge through our Eco-Driving Index. The index is based on six driving parameters that have an impact on driving behavior. Every second week we present the leaders for each country through the scoreboards below. The challenge is run between March 1 until December 31. It is possible to join the challenge at any time, and we hope as many as possible of our customers will participate. NOTE: Only the best companies in each country are presented in the tables below.

The tables above show the best companies in each country (bus companies competing in a European class) for the highest index at the last reading, best improvement since last reading, and the three companies with the best overall improvement, ie improvement x number of drivers. We call this "Eco-Momentum".

* Eco-Momentum = improvement x number of drivers

Every second week we publish advice, comments, and recommendations about Eco-Driving at our blog.

  4. Freight Companies in France
  5. Freight Companies in Finland
  6. Freight Companies in Norway

Rules: The company in each class, with the highest eco-driving index during Q4, will win the Eco-Driving Challenge.  There will also be a special price to the company that has shown the greatest improvement from its start in the Challenge to the end of the year.

Vehco will invite the winners of the Eco-Driving Challenge to a prize ceremony in February. After the ceremony, Vehco will invite the winners to a nice dinner. The expenses for the trip, the dinner and the accommodation for one person per winning company will be covered by Vehco.

More about Vehco Eco-Driving Index

In order to simplify the work with Eco-Driving, Vehco has developed the Eco-Driving Index, presented in a Manager Dashboard and a Driver Dashboard. The Eco-Driving Index is a calculation of the overall eco-driving performance of a driver and it is based on the six existing eco-driving measurements of Vehco, focusing on the behavior of the driver:

  • Overspeed
  • Idle
  • Rollout
  • Coasting
  • Wasted energy
  • Harsh braking

These measurements are displayed for the driver in the vehicle client as well as in reports in Weboffice. The Vehco eco-driving index is an algorithm that, based on many years of experience from Eco-Driving, weighs the different behavior parameters of a driver to one single index on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 represent a bad performance and 100 represents a very good performance. The value for a driver is easily compared with a target value and the driver can see his/her performance in relation to the other drivers of the company.

Vehco standard profile

The Vehco standard weight of the individual parameters are as follows:

Relative weight

Wasted energy

Harsh braking

The relative weights are based partly on experience on what is affecting fuel consumption but also based on the pedagogic effect and other considerations. An example of this is the view of excess idling: For idling, the effects on environment, nearby people and noise can motivate a higher weight than just the contribution this measurement have when it comes to wasting fuel

Other components in the algorithm

To have the index working good with real data, the algorithm contains adjustments of the scales of the individual measurements. For example, it is virtually impossible to reach an Overspeed of 100%, and therefore the realistic scale of Overspeed is not from 0 to 100. There is also an adjustment made to encourage drivers with low scores getting relatively larger improvements, but for good drivers to having it a bit harder to reach the absolute top scores. These parts of the algorithm are considered confidential and therefore not described more in detail.
